Former Ireland international Chris Farrell has been sacked by French club Oyonnax following his conviction in a rape trial last month.
Farrell was given a four-year sentence with two years suspended on 13 December for failure to prevent a crime.
The court was told that he will not be sent to prison but will have to wear an electronic tag for the two years and remain in France.
The 31-year-old was one of five people convicted by a French court in connection with the rape of a woman in April 2017, while they were all playing for Grenoble.
Former Irish Under-20 prop Denis Coulson and French native Loick Jammes, 30, were both sentenced to 14 years in prison after they were found guilty of rape, while New Zealander Rory Grice, 34, was found guilty of rape and given a 12-year sentence.
Farrell was not charged with rape, but was found guilty of failing to prevent a crime.
30-year-old Dylan Hayes from New Zealand was also charged with failure to prevent a crime and given a two-year suspended sentence.
Farrell and Grice had both been playing with French Pro D2 side Oyonnax as recently as 29 November, but the club yesterday confirmed their contracts had been terminated.
An Oyonnax statement read: "Following the verdict delivered by the Gironde Assize Court on December 13, 2024 concerning the criminal case involving Rory Grice and Chris Farrell, the Board of Directors met to decide on their future within the club's professional workforce.
"Also, after having taken note of the criminal convictions handed down against the two players, the members of the Council unanimously took the decision to terminate the contracts of Rory Grice and Chris Farrell.
"The club will not make any further comment on this matter."
Farrell joined Oyonnax from Munster in March 2023, having been stood down from playing duties in September 2022 when his case had been referred to the Assises Court of Gironde.
The centre played 15 times for Ireland, while he also represented his native Ulster earlier in his career.
